Villa Description
Villa Location
"Villa Elissavet" is nestled in the hillside above the much-loved Greek resort of Kalami.
The resort is full of character with plenty of Greek charm! An easy 2 minute drive downhill (5 minutes walk) has pleasant views of the sea between the trees, leading to the famous White House Restaurant perched on the edge of the bay. Kalami has a good selection of shops and tavernas, all centred around its lovely little pebble beach - perfect for a relaxing holiday! Entrance A private gated driveway at the front of “Villa Elissavet” provides space for your hire car, with steps leading to the entrance. Please note that the entrance to the villa is steep and the car group 1W minivan will not be suitable. Swimming pool and Bbq area The swimming pool and terrace are on a lower level than the ground floor, and can be accessed by both interior and exterior steps.
The spacious sunbathing area faces the sea and the pool is surrounded by a glass screen so you can still enjoy the view.
A poolside pergola provides a cool, shady spot for the chill out seating area, and you'll have a shaded terrace housing your games tables.
Plus, there's a Bbq and dining space for dining alfresco. Living space The living space is bright and airy, with 2 sets of patio doors opening onto a spacious sea-facing balcony with seating.
The lounge has a wall-mounted, flat screen TV and an attractive ornamental corner fireplace.
A dining table and chairs is adjacent and the adjoining, well-equipped kitchen has a handy breakfast bar for your morning coffee. Bedrooms and bathrooms On the ground floor is a double bedroom with patio doors onto the surrounding terrace overlooking the hillside to the sea, and a separate shower room adjacent.
Upstairs is a second double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, a twin bedroom and a shower room.
Both of these bedrooms share the first floor terrace where the views of the resort are at their best! You can also access a spacious side balcony from the hallway. Local markets and shopping This easy-going resort has a few small gift shops and two mini market’s for daily essentials all located in the street behind the beach, running parallel to the seafront.
Serious shoppers should head to Corfu Town, 45 minutes' drive away, which has a lively market, plus many quaint gift shops as well as larger high street brands. Bars and restaurants Kalami is centred around the beach which is lined with several waterside tavernas, including the famous White House Restaurant, once home to the author Gerald Durrell.
Just around the headland, within a short walk from Kalami, is the neighbouring village of Kouloura, which is well worth visiting during your stay.
The village has a quaint little harbour with a few small fishing boats, and a great taverna on the waterfront offering good seafood and wonderful views. Beaches The pebbly beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming and the tavernas lining the back of the beach are ideal for a spot of lunch during the day. In the evening, the village really comes to life with a great atmosphere as you dine.
Neighbouring Kouloura also has a very pleasant little beach, shaded with huge eucalyptus and pine trees.
Any of the resorts around the North East Coast will also have their own beaches if you fancy a change of scenery Family fun Corfu has a choice of good waterparks.
The largest is Aqualand, around 45 minutes' drive back towards Corfu Town.
Though a little nearer to home is the popular Hydropolis in Acharavi, around 30 minutes away. Places of interest The island is full of little villages and there is also some spectacular scenery to be enjoyed.
Why not visit the Pantokrator Mountain, Corfu's highest point, and admire the view over the island to the open sea - don't forget your camera! A day trip into Corfu Old Town is also not to be missed.
Here you can explore the maze of cobbled streets lined with souvenir shops.
Alternatively, enjoy a traditional Greek meze or look around the old and new forts before a cocktail or two by the harbour. Other activities For anyone who does decide to hire a car, access to the inland and coastal areas of the north are within easy reach, and a great way to see some of Corfu's superb scenery.
Or, in true Greek style, why not hire a motorboat and see the island from the sea? There are also various boat excursions available from the village into Corfu Town. Remember... Skats and Christina will always be around to help you with every wish you may have, and to deal with any possible problem. There are a number of resorts where boats of several different sizes can be hired locally.
Usually there are boats with tiller steering and ones with steering wheels.
Most boats have a sun canopy.
All boats have life vests and are fully prepared.
You do not need a speedboat licence to drive a boat with an engine smaller than 25hp. Instruction can be given if required. Windsurfing Though not known particularly for its windsurfing Corfu none the less has two good windsurfing schools.
One is in the south of the island and the other is on Avlaki beach in the North.
Windsurfing is something all the family can enjoy, either out at sea or from the comfort of a sunbed on the beach! A range of boards and lessons from qualified instructors are available, if required Horse riding If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse.
There are several horse riding schools around the island. There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Erimitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables. Kassiopi There is plenty to keep you occupied in and around the village if you can tear yourselves away from the private pool in your very own villa.
Right outside your villa there are miles of gorgeous, unspoilt countryside to explore on foot or horseback.
But if you fancy seeing more of the island on your holiday, Kassiopi makes a great base.
Achavari, the main town in this area is nearby along the picturesque coastal road and worth visiting for its splendid 2 mile crescent of clean sandy beach, with warm shallow water perfect for playing and paddling. Corfu Town The capital of the island and at one time of all the Ionian Islands, Corfu is a joy to discover.
With its elegant arcades, narrow Venetian style streets and relaxed friendly atmosphere it is definitely a must for all. A historically strategic and heavily fortified town and port Corfu's history dates back centuries.
Evidence of the original site of the ancient Greek city can be seen in the gardens of Mon Repos, the one time residence of the Greek royal family and in the Archaeological museum.
Further evidence of Corfu's Historic past can be found simply wandering through the streets.
You will come across little Byzantine churches, Italian platias, French arcades and a very British cricket pitch.
A walk up either of the two dominating Venetian fortresses that still remain is well worth the effort for the panoramic views across the town, port and sea and for refreshment and shopping you are truly spoilt for choice with a wide range of shaded café bars, restaurants and shops open from early morning until late at night. If you cause damage to the property during your stay, you may be required to pay according to YourRentals’s property damage policy.
